When was the process of Reverse Osmosis first invented?

The first functional RO unit was produced by Professor Yuster at UCLA in 1959. The process of Reverse Osmosis Purification was first developed to desalinate sea water. Our company began installing Residential and Commercial Reverse Osmosis purified drinking water systems in the 1970's. We have been perfecting our installation and service techniques on reverse osmosis units for many years. If a cannister cracks, or the tubing develops a hole (while you are not home); you may return home and find water coming out the front door. All RO units are very sophisticated. Did you know there is a fitting (in the membrane housing) that restricts the flow of water 'leaving the RO membrane'? This fitting is called the drain flow restrictor. This fitting prevents the water from leaving so fast (that it does not have enough contact time with the membrane). It is important for the water to have the appropriate contact time with the membrane so it will be properly purified. If the water leaves the membrane too fast - the water quality will be low.  The water must have the appropriate contact time with the membrane (in order for the water to be effectively purified).  Did you know there is a fitting on the other side of the membrane housing called the check valve? The purpose of the check valve is to prevent the water (from being produced too fast).  If the water doesn't have the appropriate amount of contact time with the membrane - the water will not be effectively purified.  The drain flow restrictor runs at a rate of three times the production. Is it possible for the drain flow restrictor and check valve to go bad? Yes, if one of the valves goes bad - the reverse osmosis unit will not work correctly.  When we touch a reverse osmosis unit we utilize a milliliter tube (time the production for 1 minute multiply this figure by 0.81) and compare the figures.  If these figures do not compare appropriately, then you have a problem.  Our technicians are like scientist; if the figures don't match - they investigate - using scientific measuring tools and applying the scientific method to solving all water problems. Do you have a written process (and the milliliter tube) to check and make sure the drain is running at three times the RO water production? We do. We have this written in our manual (which our technicians follow when servicing all RO units). If the drain flow restrictor and the check valve are not working together - you will have a bad result. In order for the Reverse Osmosis to achieve top level performance - the equipment must be of high quality; the equipment must be properly installed; the equipment must be sanitized,serviced and regularly maintained? If your Reverse Osmosis purified drinking water program does not meet these criteria - your water may not be safe to drink. Too much hetrotrophic plate count (in the RO tank) - too much risk.

How often should my RO unit be serviced/ maintained?

How much water do you drink a day? What is the quality of the incoming water? These are important considerations when you decide how often you service your RO unit. Some owners manuals instruct the RO owners to change the filters every 6 months. In our opinion (if the service is performed by a qualified service technician) the RO units should be maintained and 'the water holding tank' sanitized every year.

Some people change their filters monthly. Some people change their filters every quarter. Some people don't change their filters. How long has it been since you changed your filters? You should at least sanitize the Reverse Osmosis Water Storage Tank every year (at the very minimum). We also recommend changing the RO Filters every year. You should also test the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). If we are fortunate to install one of our Reverse Osmosis Systems we will send you a post card every year - reminding you that it is time for your yearly Reverse Osmosis equipment service and filter change.

When you recieve the post card you have three options:

1. Call us to perform this service (When you rent the RO Service - this is free)

2. Have us send you the filters. Don't forget to chlorinate and sanitize the RO storage tank

3. Forget to call us. Don't worry, we will call you and leave a message that your Reverse Osmosis unit is due for Service.

Are you picky about the water you drink?

We find there are some people who do not properly maintain their reverse osmosis units. Because the reverse osmosis units are out of sight many of our clients enjoy the hassel free maintenance that we provide. We notify you. Perform the installation, filter replacement and sanitization. If you don't take care of the RO filter unit - it won't take care of you.

Can bad things happen if I don't service my Reverse Osmosis Purified Drinking Water System?

Because the water is so high in chlorine it causes the membranes to fail. It is important to have adaquate chlorine pre treatment? What is adaquate chlorine pre treatment? It is water having enough contact time with chlorine.

 What is E. Coli?

Escherichia coli ( /ˌɛʃɨˈrɪkiə ˈkoʊlaɪ/;^[1] commonly abbreviated E. coli) is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium that is commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms (endotherms). In May 2011, one E. coli strain, Escherichia coli O104:H4, has been the subject of a bacterial outbreak that began in Germany. Certain strains of E. coli are a major cause of foodborne illness. The outbreak started when several people in Germany were infected with enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) bacteria, leading to hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), a medical emergency that requires urgent treatment. The outbreak did not only concern Germany, but 11 other countries, including regions in North America. ^[19] On 30 June 2011 the German Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (BfR) (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, a federal, fully legal entity under public law of the Federal Republic of Germany, an institute within the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection) announced that seeds of fenugreek from Egypt were likely the cause of the EHEC outbreak.^[20]

The Million Dangers of Tap Water

Clean water is one of the most important needs of our bodies. It is a sad fact that something as essential to life as clean drinking water can no longer be granted to us. Unsafe water is not just a third world problem. In fact, safe drinking water is even harder to find specially in industrially developed countries such as the U.S.

According to research articles and news, most tap and well water in the U.S. now are not safe for drinking due to heavy industrial and environmental pollution. We have reached a point that, all sources of our drinking water, including municipal water systems, wells, lakes, rivers, and even glaciers, contain some level of contamination. 

Contaminants range from naturally-occurring minerals to man-made chemicals and by-products. While many contaminants are found at levels not enough not to cause immediate discomforts or sicknesses , it is proven that even low-level exposure to many common contaminants will, over time, cause severe illness including liver damage, cancer, and other serious ailments. Even the chemicals commonly used to treat municipal water supplies such as chlorine and fluoride are toxic and are known to have significant adverse effects on the human body.

Research that fluoride (the decay-preventative added to water and dental products) can make people sick; but improved diet and complete fluoride withdrawal can relieve symptoms.(a)

Fluoride’s harmful health effects, except to teeth, are rarely studied in the U.S. and, in fact, are often discouraged(b).
